Sony Corporation was first founded by Akio Morita and Masaru Ibuka in Japan in 1945. The original name of the company was called Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo. In the 1958 the company changed its name to "Sony." It got its name from a mix of two words: one was from the Latin word Sonus which means "sonic" and "sound" and the other one was "sonny" an American term for boy. Sony started out as selling tape recorders and transistor radio. The very first product of Sony was the TR-55 transistor radio where the name appeared on the product itself.
